Self Help For Anxiety & Depression: A List Of FREE Interactive Self Help Websites

Today I wanted to get around to doing what I have been meaning to do for a while and post a list of free access interactive and/or educational websites which I have come across. These sites are fantastic resources and each one offers a different way to get involved with your recovery. Please note I am not affiliated with any of these sites and they are not affiliate sites. I hope you find one or more useful as I know many of my clients have.

  3. The topic of anxiety among the BPD population is getting some attention now. Laura L Smith and Charles H Elliott are encouraging people to get their anxiety under control as a first step in treatment. Other symptoms may become more manageable without the constant anxiety. Benzodiazepines are the most commonly prescribed anti-anxiety meds in the United States. Ativan and Klonopin are listed among the top ten. They are powerhouses in relieving nervousness and tension as they calm down the central nervous system by altering brain function. This temporarily changes perceptions and mood, often making for a pleasant euphoric feeling. But, they are very addictive and many experts recommend avoiding the prescription of benzodiazepines for patients with co-occurring disorders. They work best when there are not co-occurring diagnoses. It takes a very long time for cognitive behavior therapy to make lasting impact on anxiety.

  5. Hi Peter,
I just wanted to say thank you for making this list. I am in NZ and recently presented a meta-analysis on web-based interventions for depression. People were enthusiastic to know what CCBT websites were already available that they could recommend to clients and your list has proven very helpful.

We have two good educational websites in NZ that I would also recommend:

    depression.org.nz

which has information and a self-management course, and

    thelowdown.co.nz

aimed at young adults, with information and a self management course + text/email support from a team of trained counselors.

    Cheers,
    Louise
